The October community meeting of the Greater Avenues Community Council will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sweet Branch Library, 455 North F Street.  There will be an informal candidate meet and greet outside the library from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.  During the meeting we will have presentations from Salt Lake City Public Lands on the new Parks Bond, Rocky Mountain Power will present information on their efforts on the Wildfire Mitigation Project. Help Keep Memory Grove Beautiful! - Volunteers are needed to help weed and revegetate plant beds and the hillside at the entrance of Memory Grove Park, 400 North Canyon Road. The event is being hosted by the Memory Grove Preservation Committee and will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022. The planting beds at the gate and immediate hillside will be cleared of weeds and other pernicious plants and replanted with waterwise perennials. Dress for the weather and bring work gloves. Salt Lake City Parks Department will provide the gardening tools.  Please email with questions. This effort is a supplement to the annual Memory Grove cleanup, which will happen again next May. The September community meeting of the Greater Avenues Community Council was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Our main presentation was the Salt Lake City Transportation Master Plan. Speakers were Jon Larsen, the Director of Transportation, and Joe Taylor, the Transportation Master Plan Project Manager. The meeting was recorded and can be see HERE using passcode Pz5&.2Sq

The main topic of the August 3rd meeting was Housing in the Avenues.  See the Avenues Master Plan, developed in 1987 HERE  See more about the Avenues Historic District HERE.  See more about the South Temple Historic District is HERE    The slides from the August 3rd Housing presentation are HERE.  The GACC intends to schedule more meetings on the topic of Housing and on City initiatives that affect Housing in the Avenues. 

The July general community meeting of the Greater Avenues Community Council was held on Wednesday, July 13.  The main topic of the meeting was our Foothills Trails.  We heard presentations from Kenton Peters with Salt Lake City Trails Alliance, Dan Schelling of Save Our Foothills, and Tyler Fonarow, Salt Lake City Public Lands Recreational Trails Manager. Construction is continuing on the new Salt Lake City Public Utilities Water Reclamation Facility, started in 2020 and expected to be in service in 2025. Public Utilities has written their Summer 2022 update on the project which can be seen HERE.

SLC Community Energy Survey - Salt Lake City is working with Rocky Mountain Power and 17 other local governments on the Community Renewable Energy Program. This collaboration is aimed at developing a large amount of new renewable energy to serve our communities’ electricity needs and meet our clean energy goals. We are seeking Salt Lake City residents’ feedback on your household energy needs and priorities. Please take the Salt Lake City Community Energy Survey here to share your thoughts. GACC Meetings Now In Person and Online, plus Time Change: The GACC meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Sweet Library, 455 F Street. The library is currently closing at 8:00 p.m., so our monthly meetings are now scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Virtual attendance is also available on Zoom and Facebook Live. Links to attend virtually are posted on this website after 5:00 pm on the day of the meeting.  Any resident of the Avenues, any owner of a business or property located in the Avenues is a member of the Greater Avenues Community Council, and all members aged 16 or over are allowed to vote on any motion that is made at one of our meetings.  See the GACC Mission Statement and Bylaws HERE.
